Fraudster and the ‘tickets’ for Ed Sheeran that one of her victims never got
A FRAUDSTER used iphones and even Ed Sheeran tickets to trick her unsuspecting victims out of cash, a court has heard.
Hayley Mckay admitted 35 counts of fraud which involved 10 victims between 2017 and 2021.
Staffordshire Crown Court heard that 32 of the offences happened in Staffordshire and three in Wolverhampton. Some of them occurred while she was subject to a suspended sentence order.
The court heard that she befriended one of her victims, who had cystic fibrosis, by saying she was selling tickets to see pop star Ed Sheeran – she even met his family and he met hers. The 29-year-old got him to transfer the £200 via a bank transfer but the tickets never materialised.
She then told him that she was stuck in another country and could not get back to the UK so he transferred her another £2,000 as he was desperate for the tickets as they were a present for his girlfriend.
The money was handed over on the understanding that he would get it back from her aunt but after waiting at her house for hours, he did not get the money back.
She also got money from him to pay for the executive suite at Alton Towers which came to £800 and said she needed £50 to access her winnings of £3,000 from Paddy Power.
The victim used the money that he was saving for a mortgage and told how it had left him with a great deal of anxiety and feeling stupid. Another victim she met on a dating site and asked him to sell a phone for him on selling website ebay.
The phone sold for £890 with the money transferred but the phone was never sent. Other offences refer to credit cards and loans taken out in the names of her victims.
Mckay, of Elizabeth Avenue, Rolleston, was to be sentenced on Friday, but the case was adjourned until an exact figure can be calculated on how much she had fraudulently taken.
She was remanded in custody until her next appearance on Friday, June 25, when she is due to be sentenced.
