TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular barman who “will be truly missed” following his death at just 37.

Greene King pub The Tall Chimney, in Swadlincote, paid tribute to its popular former staff member Si (Simon) Collins, who was loved for having “a good laugh” behind the bar.

The pub’s Facebook tribute to the “fantastic” team member has attracted dozens of comments from locals who have been saddened by news of his death.

Details of the circumstances of Mr Collins’ death are not yet known.

The barman was the recipient of the Burton Mail’s Community Award for Courage back in 2015. Mr Collins had that year tackled a tandem skydive to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity, a condition he suffered with, and he raised more than £3,000.

The pub said Mr Collins was assistant manager a couple of years before his death and had a great “willingness to work hard”.

Its tribute said: “It is with great sadness to let you know that we lost a fantastic member of our Greene King family.

“Si Collins was the assistant manager at the Tall Chimney not so long ago. He will truly be missed – stories of his willingness to work hard but at the same time enjoy a good laugh with his colleagues and guests alike will absolutely live on.

“We would like to send our love and condolences to family and friends who knew and worked close with him.

“You will always be loved from

He was the heart of the Tall Chimney for so long...he will never be forgotten.

Former colleague

your Tall Chimney and Greene King family.”

The pub’s Facebook tribute has been liked by almost 1,000 people and attracted dozens of comments from those also wishing to pay tribute.

Many comments to the post say that Mr Collins had worked in a number of other pubs across Derbyshire before his time at The Tall Chimney, reports Derbyshirelive.

One regular said: “Heartbreaking news. Simon, you were an incredible person. Had the best sense of humour and outlook in life.

“I have so many fond memories with you.”

A former colleague said: “He was the heart of the Tall Chimney for so long. It was such a pleasure to have worked so closely with him. He will never be forgotten.”

And another pub regular said: “An amazing person whose Halloween parties will never be beat! So many great memories and always had a smile for everyone. Rest easy Simon.”
