Come from behind wins in cup finals

- MRA

AS the weekend saw the Euros commence, it also saw the G&T Jenkins Midlands Regional Alliance season conclude with the remaining two divisional cup finals taking place.

Allenton United lifted the Premier Division Cup despite falling behind to an early goal from Derby Singh Brothers’ Jagjeet Dhillon.

Dan James levelled for Allenton shortly before the interval and, as the second half wore on they assumed control of the match.

Former Derby County and Nottingham Forest striker Marcus Tudgay put Allenton ahead on the hour and substitute Shaun Roberts soon added another.

Tudgay put the result beyond doubt with a little under 10 minutes to go, making it 4-1 to Allenton and ensuring their first season back in the Midlands Regional Alliance ended with silverware.

In the final of the Division Two Cup, FC Sunnyhill made the most of their home advantage in the early stages of the tie, with Panganayi Patrobes Mugadza’s strike from just outside the box giving them the lead midway through the first half.

However, as with the Premier Division final, scoring first did not bode well for the hosts and Glapwell Development came back strongly in the second half to claim the trophy.

When Glapwell’s equaliser came ten minutes after the interval it was from an unexpected source, when a huge kick from keeper Ross Etheridge sailed over his counterpart at the other end.

Etheridge, still only 26, played for Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers earlier in his career and had a loan spell with Gresley among others.

This goal served to knock the stuffing out of the home side and Daniel Sipco headed Glapwell in front ten minutes later.

Glapwell sealed victory with five minutes left.

Luke Manlove won the ball in midfield and carried it forward before squaring for Sipco to knock home his second goal of the game, making the final score 3-1 to Glapwell.
