NEARLY 150 plants were seized from a Burton house after concerns were raised by those living nearby, it has emerged

Officers found the plants at the property in Wyggeston Street, Horninglow, on Wednesday, after members of the public told officers that they had not seen the residents who had been living there for some time.

When they got into the house, the officers from East Staffordshire Police uncovered the large cannabis growing operation.

They made the discovery at around 3pm and Western Power Distribution was also called to the house to disconnect the electricity supply to make sure it was safe to go inside.

About 149 plants were seized from four rooms of the property, and the house was boarded up at about 4.40pm. Western Power had the property safe by midnight.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said local officers were out on patrol visiting people in the community when they were approached by a concerned member of the public.

The person said the resident had not been seen in a long time so they got into the property over concerns that they needed help.

Pictures from the scene show officers filling the back of a police van with clear bags containing a green plant.
