UNREPORTED WORLD: LOVE UNDER SIEGE
Channel 4, 7.30pm
It’s wedding season in Maiduguri, Nigeria – birthplace of the terrorist group Boko Haram. After 12 years of fighting, more than 36,000 people killed and over two million displaced, the militants have been pushed to the edges of the city.
Finally, thousands of couples are coming together to get married – although their city is under siege.
In this fascinating report, Yousra Elbagir talks to some of those getting married under these extraordinary circumstances. The terrorists target weddings and kidnap brides, so there are armed guards everywhere.
Elbagir experiences all the glamour of the city’s high society ceremonies (pictured), in stark contrast to modest weddings on the outskirts of town for those displaced by the conflict.
