Tigers in talks on move for Marriott

DERBY County striker Jack Marriott is in talks over a move to Hull City.

Hull are preparing for life back in the Championship after winning the League One title and have stepped in to offer Marriott a route back to East Yorkshire after he failed to agree terms on a new deal with the Rams, our colleagues at Hulllive are reporting.

Marriott, who originally hails from Beverley, was named as one of five Derby players in contract talks when the club released their retained list.

The 26-year-old signed a 12-month extension to his deal in

October 2020 to run to the summer of 2022 before he headed out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the club explained that registration approval was subsequently withdrawn by the EFL in December.

This is believed to be because the EFL’S appeal against Derby was ongoing at the time.

It means Marriott’s current contract expires at the end of the month.

Marriott failed to score in 13 games for Wednesday and was blighted by injury.

Derby had a January recall option in Marriott’s loan with the Owls but decided not to activate it despite the team being short of goals.

Hull are looking to add to their attacking options after both Gavin Whyte and Dan Crowley returned to their parent clubs following loan spells.

Marriott has previously worked with City boss Grant Mccann at Peterborough United.

The player has reportedly been told that he does not feature in Wayne Rooney’s plans at Derby.

Meanwhile, Mccann has suggested Hull are close to bringing in a front man, revealing an unnamed player was undergoing a medical.

“There’s an attacking player coming in potentially over the next couple of days,” he told BBC Humberside on Wednesday.
