- By ADNAN RASHID adnan.rashid@reachplc.com

STAFF at a Burton restaurant were “abused” by an aggressive customer, its bosses have said.

Customers looked on as the incident took place at The Winery bar and restaurant in Manor Driv, at the weekend.

Restaurant bosses have spoken out to show their support for the staff members they say were targeted.

A statement from the owners was posted on social media, which read: “It’s saddens us to have to write this post, however, following an incident (on) Saturday 19th June 2021, where several of our staff were subject to aggressive and abusive behaviour and language from a customer, we deem it necessary to state that no one deserves to be spoken to and treated in such manner.

“The health and mental wellbeing of our staff is paramount.

“The staff concerned in the incident have had and will continue to have all of our support, and have available to them any resources necessary.

“We do not tolerate or think it’s acceptable for anybody to be made to feel uncomfortable and vulnerable in their own workplace.

“We would also like to thank all our customers who witnessed the incident and were extremely supportive and caring towards our staff.

“Thankfully these occasions are very far and few between, but we just wish for it to be known, that this will NOT be tolerated here at The Winery.”

The restaurant owners have been contacted for more information, but declined to give any further comment. The incident was not reported to Staffordshire Police, the force has said.
