Bostwick has second year, Albion confirm

-

BURTON Albion have confirmed that centre-half Michael Bostwick is under contract for next season.

It had been thought that the vastly-experienced defender was out of contract, having been given only a one-year deal when signed by previous manager Jake Buxton last summer.

Now, the Mail understands that the club extended the deal once they knew more about their situation as the pandemic unfolded.

Bostwick was regarded as a very good capture when he left Lincoln

City for Burton at the end of the 2019-20 season – a big, non-nonsense centre-half or defensive midfielder with long, successful spells with Stevenage and Peterborough United under his belt, prior to more than 100 appearances for Lincoln.

But he suffered with both form and injury in the first half of the season for Burton.

With Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on board as manager in January, Bostwick was brought back into the side when John-joe O’toole was injured and did not look back.

He formed a formidable partnership at the heart of the defence with on-loan defender Hayden Carter in the second half of the campaign and chipped in with two important goals, now looking every inch the defensive leader the club had seen when they signed him.

It appears that once the financial situation was clearer, negotiations continued with Bostwick and his agent and an agreement was reached for a second year – and that will be a popular decision with most supporters.
