Positive coronaviru­s case rises are recorded across the area

POSITIVE cases of coronaviru­s continue to rise across the region, reflecting the national picture.

In East Staffordsh­ire, there were 14 new cases in the 24 hours up to 4pm yesterday. There have been 104 cases in the past seven days, which is 85.7 per cent up on the previous seven days.

There were no deaths reported with 28 days of a positive Covid test.

In South Derbyshire, there were 24 new cases reported. There have been 112 in the past seven days, which is 330.8 per cent higher than the previous seven days. There were no new deaths. In North West Leicesters­hire, there were five new cases reported. There have been 94 reported in the last seven days, which is 56.7 per cent higher than the previous seven days.

In the UK, there were 14,876 new cases reported. The rolling seven-day rate is up by 58.7 per cent.

There were 11 deaths reported, and the rolling seven-day rate up by 72.2 per cent.

Vaccinatio­ns up to 4pm on Saturday show that a total of 44,314,799 have now had their first dose, which is 84.1 per cent of the adult population, and 32,460,191 have had both doses, which is 61.6 per cent of the population.

In the latest data published by the Government for Covid patient admissions to University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, including Queen’s Hospital between June 14 and June 20, there had been no new Covid admissions.

Nationally, in the seven days between June 16 and June 22, there had been 1,557 new hospital admissions with coronaviru­s, which is up 10.3 per cent on the previous seven-day period.
