TWO prominent shops in Burton town centre that have stood empty more than a year are finally set to be filled when new businesses move in.

The former Kwei Ping restaurant and the Brighthouse furniture store below are set to be occupied once again.

Kwei Ping, on the first floor of the premises in Station Street, closed two years ago when its owners retired after 30 years, while Brighthouse, on the ground floor, closed suddenly last year.

The Kwei Ping premises had temporarily been the operating base for construction firm AMEY while its workers continued the revamp of Station Street and, more recently, High Street.

However, it has now been revealed that both premises will be permanently filled once again, after commercial estate agents Rushton Hickman signed leases with new tenants.

Simon Walker, commercial property agent at Rushton Hickman, has confirmed that Rushton Hickman recently completed a letting of the former Bright House empty retail unit.

He said the property was in the process of being fitted out by the new tenant.

Mr Walker said: “Rushton Hickman also expect to conclude lease negotiations very shortly with interested parties for the first floor of the same property, which traded for

many years as Kwei Ping Chinese restaurant.

“We let the space last year for use as a project management office to

AMEY, the construction company, who are carrying out the improvement and upgrading works to Station Street and High Street, Burton.

“AMEY will be vacating the space end of July/early August we understand as the works are close to being completed.”

Rushton Hickman said it was not yet in a position to reveal the identity of the new businesses moving into the building.
