Stealthy way to have smart meters fitted on the back of Covid fears

-

WE have received a letter from Severn Trent informing us that, in order to comply with current Covid legislation (I very much doubt that) they will have to change our meter.

They are concerned about protecting their staff from coming into contact with people who may have it. Fair point on the face of it, but Covid is a virus, the same as the common cold, so before much longer there will be 5,000 strains of Covid, like the common cold.

The letter goes on to say they will be able to read our new meter remotely, which will give more accurate results and there is no option to refuse. I can’t see this.

Our meter is off the property premises and is read by a man with a magnifying glass to gather the figures. The only thing this man has ever said to me is “good morning”. So this is just a stealth way of fitting smart meters, like it or not.
