Rumour links Ram Byrne to Celtic

-

DERBY County defender Nathan Byrne has been linked with a move to Celtic.

According to The Scottish Sun, Byrne is a “potential” transfer target for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as he looks to continue building his squad after taking over from John Kennedy at Parkhead last month.

Byrne was one of Derby’s leading players last season as Wayne Rooney’s side finished one point clear of relegation.

Byrne signed from Wigan Athletic as a replacement for Jayden Bogle, who signed for Sheffield United in September, and has been superb so far.

Derby hardly noticed the departure of Bogle and it is no surprise to see Byrne being eyed by another club.

He set up four goals in 42 appearances last season and his recovery pace was an asset, as well as his delivery from the wing.

Derby are under a transfer embargo that is restricting movements that Rooney can make.

Losing Byrne would be a devastating blow but there are no suggestions that Celtic’s interest is concrete.

However, they will have the financial means to make a move if they want to, with Kristoffer Ajer’s £13.5m departure close.

“If Byrne leaves for Celtic I will actually cry, he is so good,” one fan said, while another added: “No problems. That will be the £13.5m recently received please.”

“Why are they going after our players?” a third supporter asked while another added: “He can’t go now, his photo has been put on the megastore.”

“Have we had a summer where someone is not linked to Celtic,” said a fifth fan.

“£4m please and he is all yours,” another said.
