Switching off? What is that, says non-stop Hasselbaink

-

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink admits he rarely swtiches off from football – and sharing an apartment with his assistant Dino Maamria when they are in Burton does not help.

The pair have had an especially busy summer, bringing in 10 new players for Burton Albion – which is more than any other club in League One, so far.

Now they have their squad deep into a fierce pre-season which continues tomorrow night with an away game against Scunthorpe United. Hasselbaink chuckled when asked if he finds himself thinking about the game constantly.

“I don’t switch off. What is that, switching off?” he said.

“When you do this job, you can’t really. “Here and there, you talk about other things with your family and stuff but when you’re sitting by yourself, you’re always thinking ‘how can I manipulate this, how can I make them better, how can I get them sharper, how can I help them, how can I make them understand a little bit better?’

“It’s very important, the understanding. You’re always thinking.”

And with regard to Maamria: “He doesn’t want to leave me!

“No, it’s good, we’re still in the same apartment and always talking about football.”
