Beer festival is the real deal
FOUR-DAY EVENT AT TOWN PUB TO SERVE 12 RARE AND SPECIAL BREWS
RARE cask ales are making their way to Burton along with specially brewed ones for a four-day festival.
Building upon the success of its gin and rum festival, the Old Royal Oak pub, in the Market Place, is set to host its first cask beer and lager festival.
The cask beers on offer from Thursday to Sunday, July 29 to August 1, will include 12 that would never normally find their way to Burton. There will also be six from the Fownes Brewing Company, two of which have been brewed especially for the event. Landlord Stephen Jackman said: “I’ve built my reputation for serving great real ale on my willingness to travel the length and breadth of the country in search of new and great beers.
“The pandemic has had a massive impact on brewers of cask ale with many not resuming production of the traditional format. That’s made it more fun and challenging.
“To make the event more unusual we’re also having a mini lager festival alongside the cask beers.”
On the bar will be six craft-brewed lagers including a British, American, Italian and a Kolsch-style lager, as well as a new lager from Moonwake Brewery in Edinburgh.
To keep customers safe, the pub will be maintaining its regular table service and spaced-out seating in addition to its café-style outdoor seating. Bar manager Michelle Geary said: “We will also have an extended range of cider on offer, as well as over 80 spirits and mixers.
“We want to make sure that everyone can enjoy the event while remaining safe as we’re very aware of the current covid situation.”
The festival will be held from noon to 10pm on Thursday; noon to 11pm on Friday and Saturday and noon to 6pm on Sunday, August 1.
