Courts deal with those who broke tier rules

A MAN caught outside the area when he should not have been and one not wearing a face mask when he entered a shop are among covid rule breakers who have appeared in court.

They were among 20 people from across Staffordsh­ire who have recently been convicted of breaching the coronaviru­s regulation­s when they were in place earlier last year and running into this year.

The country was the subject different ‘Tiers’ of restrictio­ns, including people being banned from leaving the area they lived for unspecifie­d reasons.

Their cases have been dealt with at North Staffordsh­ire Justice

Centre, with many convicted of attending illegal gatherings.

Mariusz Jasinski, 25, of Ash Street, Burton, was convicted of entering a shop, namely Zielona Zabka in Burton on January 22 without wearing a face covering. He has been fined £220, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Mohammed Khan, 53, of Waterloo Street, Burton, was convicted of participat­ing in a gathering in the Tier 4 area of Burton which took place at his address in Waterloo Street, Burton, on January 10, which consisted of two or more people. He has been fined £770, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £77 victim surcharge.

Ashley Barrow, 26, of Abbotts Road, Leek, was convicted of participat­ing in a gathering in the Tier 4 area of Leek which took place in Ford Street, Leek, on December 31, which consisted of two or more people.

He has been fined £660, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.

Alex Brereton, 35, of William Terrace, Fegg Hayes, Stoke, was convicted of participat­ing in a gathering in the Tier 4 area of Stoke which took place in William Terrace, Stoke, on January 14, which consisted of two or more people.

He has been fined £660, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.

Shaun Bridgwood, 51, of Joseph Street, Burslem, was convicted being outside the place he was living in the Tier 4 area of Stoke on February 7 without reasonable excuse.

He has been fined £660, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.

Raj Mihalcea, 43, of Newport Street, Wolverhamp­ton, was convicted of being in Lichfield on January 19 without reasonable excuse, while he was living in the Tier 4 area of Wolverhamp­ton.

He has been fined £660, ordered to pay £95 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.
