Reflecting on tragic loss of Amy, 10 years on

-

SINGING icon Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning 10 years ago today, aged just 27, leaving a nation reeling with shock.

Her battles with addiction were well publicised, but her family feels that away from the stories of drugs, alcohol and destructive relationships, there was a different Amy that has been lost.

“You think you know my daughter, but there was so much more,” says her mum Janis. “She resonated at a different frequency to everyone else.”

In this emotive documentary,

Amy’s parents

Janis and Mitch, as well as her closest friends, give insights into the real Amy and the impact that her loss has had on them.

After Amy died, Janis and Mitch were accused of failing their daughter, something they discuss here, with Mitch talking about how it led him to have a nervous breakdown.

Mitch and Janis, who has multiple sclerosis, talk about their deep grief for their daughter as they remember her childhood, rise to fame and

ultimate struggle with bulemia, drugs and alcohol.

The Rehab singer’s friends Naomi, Chantelle, Catriona and Michael also speak out for the first time, revealing the truth about her battles with her mental health.

Poignant footage of Amy sees her asked about her worst fear.

“What am I scared of? Myself,” she says.

Home videos from her childhood along with musical performances make for sad viewing, but a reminder of her incredible legacy.

Janis says: “I always remember our last words. I said, ‘I love you Amy’. She said, ‘I love you Mummy’. That was special.”
