Unbeaten starts all ended in League One

- LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

THE last four unbeaten records in League One all went down on Saturday, with defeats for Wycombe Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth.

Ross Stewart scored twice as Sunderland went two points ahead at the top after beating Wycombe 3-1 at home.

The Black Cats have won all of their games apart from their defeat to Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

Stewart struck either side of Elliot Embleton’s goal before David Wheeler netted a stoppage-time consolation for the visitors.

Wednesday were beaten 1-0 away to Morecambe, Dennis Adeniran’s second-half own goal, the last touch from a corner, settling the game.

Cambridge United followed up their first win of the season, against the Brewers, by beating Bolton 1-0 thanks to Shilow Tracey’s first-half strike.

Callum Lang scored the only goal, in the 78th minute, as Wigan Athletic won 1-0 at home to Portsmouth and they, along with Burton, are among six clubs on 10 points from five games grouped beneath Sunderland.

Shrewsbury Town scored their first goals of the season and took their first win as they came from behind to beat Gillingham 2-1 in a match with a controversial finish at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Jack Tucker gave the Gills a firsthalf lead but 17-year-old Tom Bloxham’s brilliant bicycle kick volley equalised after 59 minutes and Sam Cosgrove added a 68th-minute winner.

There were four red cards in stoppage time after a foul near the dugouts led to a melee.

Shrewsbury’s David Davis and

Gillingham’s Daniel Phillips received second yellow cards for their dismissals, while Shrews substitute goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne was sent off after he clashed with Gillingham assistant manager Paul Raynor, who was also red-carded.

Managers Steve Evans and Steve Cotterill also had to be kept apart and it seems likely fines will follow for both clubs.

Michael Smith’s first-half double gave Rotherham United a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers, who are bottom with only one point.

Also with one point are Crewe Alexandra after first-half goals from Diallang Jaiyesimi and Jayden Stockley gave Charlton Athletic a 2-0 win at The Valley.

It was also 2-0 at Stadium MK, where Mohamed Eisa and Matt O’riley gave MK Dons a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley.

Pre-season promotion favourites Ipswich Town are still looking for their first League win of the season after squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to AFC Wimbledon.

Quick-fire goals from Joe Pigott, from the penalty spot, and Wes Burns at the start of the second half put the Tractor Boys in apparent control but Ben Heneghan soon pulled a goal back before substitute Jack Rudoni equalised in the 95th minute.

James Henry scored a hat-trick as Oxford United won 3-1 at home against Lincoln City, who scored a late consolation from the penalty spot through Anthony Scully.

Callum Camps cancelled out Ryan Hardie’s opener for Plymouth Argyle as Fleetwood Town came from behind for a 1-1 draw at Home Park.
