New show is truly out of this world

When Molly Rainford entered Britain’s Got Talent she couldn’t have imagined her dream of stardom would take her into space

THERE’S a new space comedy-adventure series starting on CBBC this month and, like lots of young girls, its title character wants to be a star!

Nova Jones is a talented 18-year-old singer who makes an impact with her out-of-this-world fashion while playing sell-out gigs around the galaxy. And it’s her 12-year-old sister and manager, Mclaren, who has to organise her schedule – and her moods – and untangle the knotty situations she gets them into.

Former Britain’s Got Talent contestant Molly Rainford – she reached the final in 2012 – takes the title role.

Molly, 20, says: “Nova is a lovable diva, playing her is a dream come true. Performing super-catchy tunes in sparkly costumes is fun, and it’s a pleasure to be a part of the Jefferson spaceship crew.”

Here Molly tells us more about the show.

singing with acting?

Perfect! Acting is something I’d wanted to do so it was a nice challenge because it’s different to anything I’ve done before.

Tell us about the songs in the show.

The songs are catchy, very poppy and feel-good. Nova sings a duet, a musical film number and more upbeat, fun stuff, and they’re all earworms.

What about the costumes and make-up?

Nova has a real sense of style and she’s all about the sparkles. In what job can you wear all these different colours and even switch your hair colour all the time? It’s like playing dress up.

What was your favourite moment on set?

You’ve sung from a young age, what’s it like to combine

I was filming a scene with my back to the door of the set and the director said ‘Molly stay in it, keep being Nova’. It was my birthday and, all of a sudden, a birthday cake was brought on. It was the sweetest moment.
