Teeney, Richins fire up Swans

-

GOALS from George Teeney and Connor Richins maintained Stapenhill’s unbeaten record in Midland Division One last weekend as they beat visiting Cradley Town 2-0.

The Swans started well, with Richins and Cameron Steele both seeing efforts cleared off the line.

Jack Thatcher then fired over from close range with the goal gaping.

On the half hour mark, Richins burst clear from midfield and launched a rocket from distance but the Town keeper dived at full stretch to keep it out.

In a rare attack for the visitors, Constantin Calmis broke away only to drag his shot harmlessly wide.

Swans substitute Santi Sesay made an immediate impact just after the break, with a surging crossfield run before firing inches over.

Then Sesay set up Richins, who hit another long distance effort narrowly wide.

Winger Sesay was proving a real handful and his corner was headed on to the woodwork by Ash Garner, while a Zaki Evans free kick got a deflection before skimming the outside of the post.

In the 70th minute Richins missed a glorious chance, heading wide from a pinpoint Sesay cross.

With 13 minutes remaining, the Swans finally broke the deadlock when an inviting cross from Lewis Campbell caused panic in the Town defence, the ball falling kindly for Teeney to smash home his seventh goal in seven games.

In a frantic finish, Town had a goal ruled out because of a foul before the Swans doubled their lead in added time.

Richins struck but the visitors alerted the referee to the assistant’s flag for offside. However, the assistant was over-ruled as the ball was played through to Richins by a Town defender.

Stapenhill: Hollis, Pearce, Campbell, Evans, M Roome, Garner, O Roome (Sesay, 46) Richins, Teeney (Lansdowne, 86), Steele, Thatcher (Bennett, 73).
