Delays on the A38 after six cars collide
A Six-car crash and vehicle fire caused major delays for drivers on the A38 yesterday.
The incident closed the southbound carriageway around the accident scene at Fradley, with traffic also slowing down on the northbound carriageway.
It happened between Fradley Lane, which is the Fradley Arms junction for the A38, and Wood End Lane.
According to traffic and travel website Inrix, the road was blocked and there was queuing traffic in the area.
Traffic maps showed the tailbacks building up back to Wychnor, with heavy traffic in both directions.
Emergency services were at the scene as they tried to clear the accident and reopen the road.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We do not believe there are any serious injuries. Everyone involved is described as ‘walking wounded’. We were called to the incident at 4.30pm and the incident is right at the junction with Wood End Lane.”
Bus company Midland Classic diverted its 12 and X12 services via Wood End Lane and the A515 towards Lichfield. Customers were warned to expect severe delays.
