Rovers’ seventh heaven in Vase

- GRESLEY ROVERS 7 DUDLEY SPORTS 0

GRESLEY Rovers cruised into the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Vase, beating Dudley Sports 7-0 at the Moat Ground, writes Harry Tizard.

Steve Hart scored twice in the second half to seal the win after the home side built a 3-0 half-time lead and the Moatmen face a trip to Winsford United in the next round.

Ryan Seal, Danny Munday and Alex Morris all found the net before the break to give Gresley a comfortable advantage, with an impressive defensive display allowing the away side only one shot on target.

The second half followed a similar trend, Lee Butler making it 4-0 with a superb lob in the 64th minute.

Hart’s brace and a strike from Mason Frizelle wrapped up the victory.

Gresley almost opened the scoring with only 90 seconds on the clock as Dudley Sports’ Tom Baker was caught on the ball by an eager Kelvin Kosongo inside his own 18-yard-box but the shot from close range was blocked well by a covering defender.

Kosongo was causing leftback Mico Ela Mamiga problems on the wing with his charges inside from the right and he teed up Hart, whose first shot struck a defender before he rattled the bar with a follow-up.

Hart set up Seal for the 13th-minute opener and the lead was doubled nine minutes later by Munday.

The home side profited from their aerial dominance seven minutes before the break when Morris headed home Seal’s corner.

Butler increased the lead after the break with a lob that fell just beneath the crossbar before substitute Riley Crawley was tripped leading to Hart’s 70th-minute penalty.

Frizelle tapped home Gresley’s sixth in the 83rd minute and Hart completed his brace in the final stages. Coming inside from the right, the striker rolled the ball onto his right foot before tapping his shot ball past the keeper.
