Winchester winner ensures Black Cats remain at summit

SUNDERLAND stay at the top of League One with a 2-1 win at home to Accrington Stanley.

Dan Neil scored his first senior goal for the Black Cats with a shot from 25 yards.

Max Nottingham headed in Sean Mcconville’s corner to equalise before half-time but Sunderland regained the lead after 58 minutes when Carl Winchester broke through from Aiden Mcgeady’s through ball and stroked home his second goal of the season.

Wigan Athletic went second with a 2-1 home win over Doncaster.

Tommy Rowe, older brother of Burton Albion’s Danny, put Rovers in front at the DW Stadium but a goal in each half from Will Keane turned the tables for the Latics.

Ipswich Town’s miserable start to the season continued with a 5-2 hammering at home to Bolton Wanderers, who move up to third.

Macauley Bonne put the Tractor Boys in front but Dapo Afolayan and Eoin Doyle, from the penalty spot, put the Trotters in front.

Ricardo Santos’ own goal made it 2-2 matters up again but Afolayan had Bolton in front again in first-half stoppage time and they added second-half goals through Josh Sheehan and George Johnston.

In another seven-goal game, AFC Wimbledon’s Ayoub Assal scored in stoppage time to give his side a 4-3 win away to Morecambe.

Anthony Hartigan’s goal gave the Dons a half-time lead before Cole Stockton and Shane Mcloughlin put the Shrimps in front. Ethan Chislett equalised, Stockton put Morecambe ahead again, then Will Nightingal­e equalised ahead of the dramatic finish.

Ethan Robson’s second-half goal saw MK Dons to a 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth.

Hakeeb Adelakun, Conor Mcgrandles, Anthony Scully (two) and Lewis Fiorini got the goals as Lincoln City won 5-1 away to Cambridge United, whose consolatio­n was scored by Joe Ironside.

Rotherham United went down 4-2 at home to Fleetwood Town. Callum Morton put Fleetwood ahead but Michael Smith and Kieran Sadlier, with a penalty, had the Millers in front by half-time.

Goals from Gerard Garner, Danny Andrew and Callum Camps put Fleetwood firmly in control after the break.

Plymouth Argyle were 3-0 winners at home against Sheffield Wednesday thanks to goals from Joe Edwards, Dan Scarr and Ryan Law.

Matty Blair and Taylor Perry scored in Cheltenham Town’s 2-1 win away to Charlton Athletic, with Jonathan Leko replying.

Sam Cosgrove put Shrewsbury Town ahead at home to Crewe Alexandra, but Mikael Mandron’s goal before halftime secured a 1-1 draw for Crewe.

Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers contested a goalless draw.
