Former pub is completely demolished following its partial collapse
A STAFFORDSHIRE pub that collapsed suddenly has now been bulldozed.
As reported in the Burton Mail, The Blacks Head, in Tean, fell down on Monday, September 6, with High Street having to be closed for safety reasons.
But the road is now reopened after a swift demolition was arranged – leaving a huge pile of rubble in the middle of the village.
These pictures show what is now left of the historic pub, which was due to be converted into a Co-op. Staffordshire Police have confirmed nobody was hurt in last week’s incident.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says inspectors from Derbyshire Building Control
Partnership assessed the building following its collapse.
Councillor Steven Buckley, of Checkley Parish Council, said: They’ve taken the whole of the building down, which I thought they would have to do because it looked unsafe. It has completely gone. The Blacks Head is no more.
“Surely there’ll have to be revised plans for the Co-op.
“They stated in their planning that it wasn’t a listed building, but the planning officer said it was to be incorporated because of its long standing within the village.
“The first tenant was in 1769. It’s a very old building and it’s part of the history of the village. I was quite shocked at the fact that it has come down.”
The district council says fresh planning permission will now be required following the collapse.
A spokesperson said: “We have not had any discussions to date with the developer. However, a fresh planning permission will be required for the replacement of those buildings originally proposed for retention as part of the conversion scheme.”
The Co-op has yet to issue an update on its plans. However, the firm has confirmed it does not own the site and would instead lease it.
