Alrewas clinch promotion as Will leads way

-

ALREWAS are celebrating promotion to the Premier Division as a win against Sawley clinched the runners-up spot in Greenhouse Café Division One.

Will Smedley (7-21) was their final day hero, instigating a Sawley collapse from 87-2 to 137 all out after Craig Swinfield (2-23) removed both openers.

That put Alrewas firmly in control and though James Burton fell with only two runs on the board, they went on to win by six wickets with almost 22 overs to spare.

Gareth Woolley (37) set the tone before Stephen Cole (22 not out) and Josh Jones (21 not out) polished off their triumph.

Rolleston did all they could do to overhaul Alrewas, taking an eightwicket win over Wirksworth & Middleton.

Wirksworth were bowled out for 158 with Graham Dent (2-31), Alex Brown (2-25) and Tom Liversage (4-26) taking wickets.

Louis Burrows then hit an unbeaten 100, made off 122 balls and including 12 fours. Liversage completed a fine all-round performance with 37 not out to round off the win but it was not enough.

At the other end of the table, Lullington Park lost their Division One status when they were beaten by seven wickets by Morton Colliery.

That was even though Park hit 274-4 after winning the toss. Paul Dawson (88) led the way, striking 13 fours and a six and setting the table for Brendon Louw (98 not out) and Sam Eaton (39) to cash in.

That might have been enough but they reckoned without Alex Eyre, whose unbeaten 146 included 17 fours and six sixes and scuppered Lullington’s hopes.

Dawson took 3-80 but Kieron Marsh (42), Blair Matthews (32) and Ashley Caunt (40 not out) joined Eyre to see Morton comfortably through.

Dunstall fell to defeat against Duffield but Clifton’s loss to Cutthorpe saw both clubs survive.

Jamie Benstead made a lone stand for Dunstall, hitting 67 not out from a total of 106 all out as Joe Wozniczka-wells took 7-20 for Duffield.

Dan Featherstone (2-25) gave Dunstall hope after the break but an unbeaten 49 from Rob Heath saw Duffield home.

THE Beechwood Mazda Derbyshire Premier Division title is in Sandiacre Town’s hands, with only one match to go for the two remaining contenders.

They moved into pole position with a 43-run victory over Ockbrook & Borrowash at Longmoor Lane on Saturday.

A win against Denby next weekend will be enough to see Sandiacre take the title. Any slip and victory for Ockbrook against Chesterfield will see the trophy heading to Victoria Avenue.

After being put in, Sandiacre opener James Chapman left Sandiacre in charge with a 147-ball 101. Late runs from Connor Marshall (35) and Matt Kimmitt (23 not out) made their total a challenging 255-7.

Matt Newbold (3-62) reduced Ockbrook in reply to 42-2 but Josh Lacey (44) and Ethan Berlusconi (57) forged a third-wicket partnership of 87.

When John Jordison (2-36) removed both batsmen Ockbrook fell behind the pace. Jacob Conners hit 33 but Dan Wheeldon (2-41) and Marshall (3-49) bowled the rest of the side out for 212.

Ticknall’s campaign ended with a win and though they sit on top of the table, there will be no title.

Rahib Ali scored 164 with two sixes and 24 fours in their 219-run thumping of Marehay. Will Hobson (62) and Greg Cork (46 from 16 balls) helped their side pile up 347-6, with only Lewis Palmer (3-89) making an impression with the ball.

Marehay were bowled out for 128 in reply with Matt Smyth (3-51) and Jack Gorbert (4-13) again among the wickets. Joe Wilson (2-26) tore through them inside 33 overs.
