Sharpe extends her club javelin record

FRAN Sharpe again extended the Burton Athletic Club javelin record when she took part in an open meeting in Derby.

The under-20 thrower launched the javelin to 38.83m and is ranked 19th in the country for her age.

At the same meeting, Netty Webster, in her final year as a W40, threw 22.23m for a personal best and age group club record. Reese Robinson also set a PB with 20.16m at under-13.

John Hendon, still getting used to his new running blades, ran a 100m PB of 17.76 seconds. Aleksander Tutt won his under-13 75m race with 12.35 and added a 600m PB of 1.59.02.

There was a superb win and a PB of 5.10.13 for Caitlin Mccarney in the 1500m at the Charnwood AC Open in Loughborou­gh.

A group of three, including Mccarney, broke away at 600m and

when the pace slowed at the bell, Mccarney powered away to win.

Joel Cantrill judged his pace well to win at the same distance by eight seconds in 4.46.26.

Zara Acton threw a season’s best 36.05m in ther discus, then won the shot with 10.75, while her brother Ben won both shot and discus.

Rising hurdles star Katie Brant travelled to Norwich and Manchester for races, getting closer to the number one ranked Isabelle Mardle in the 75m hurdles in Norwich than she had in the national championsh­ips.

She ran 11.2 seconds there but lowered it to a PB and club record of 11.17 seconds to win the next day in Manchester.

BURTON’S young athletes turned in some good performanc­es in their last league match in Derby.

In the under-15s, Katie Brant won the 75m hurdles, with Ffion Raw, on her league debut, winning the B race.

Raw also won the B 300m and was fifth in the long jump.

Caitlin Mccarney took off with 300m left to win the 800m 2.37.16, opening a six-second gap.

Brant took to the flat to win the 100m in 13.1, Lily Hill adding the B win in 13.73.

The 200m saw clear wins in the A for Isla Swindlehur­st in 27.93 and Elizabeth Washbourne in the B in 29.16.

The relay team of Washbourne, Hill, Swindlehur­st and Brant not surprising­ly smashed the 100m relay for a clear win in 53.87.

George Kugelmann top scored for the boys’ under-15 team with second in the shot (8.26m), a win in the discus (20.70m) and second in the javelin with a PB 27.35.

In the under-13s, Reese Robinson won the javelin with a fine 27.43m throw, adding seven metres to his PB.

Debutant Rosie Tyler won the non-scoring 75m race in 11.37 and the B long jump with 3.71. Isabelle Gould was another new athlete and was second in the javelin with 17.91m, while Holly Wilson was second in the

B with 16.40m.
