Four areas with lowest uptake of vaccine

-

RESIDENTS living in four areas in Burton have the lowest figures for the uptake of both Covid vaccine in east Staffordshire, it has been revealed.

The four ward areas at the bottom of the vaccine table for both doses are Anglesey, Shobnall, eton Park and Burton, which all have less than a 50 per cent uptake.

Anglesey is the lowest at just 36.9 per cent of people living there having had both jabs. Anglesey, Shobnall and eton Park all have an outbreak of Covid when restrictions first started easing after the first lockdown last year.

now people living in these areas are being urged by Staffordshire County Council to get their vaccine doses as soon as possible to help protect themselves and others this winter.

Dr Johnny Mcmahon, Staffordshire’s cabinet support member for public health, said: “Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from serious illness this winter and we would encourage everyone aged 12-plus to get the vaccine, even if they have had the virus.

“People who have already had both vaccines, also need to get their Covid booster to ensure they are as fully protected as possible.”

People can now book online nationally at www.nhs.uk/ conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ coronavirus-vaccination/bookcoronavirus-vaccination/ or find a local walk- in centre.

The next walk-in centre for everyone aged 12-plus including for first, second dose and boosters will be at Burton Fire Station (De14 3SU) today from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Duncan Goodfellow, leader of east Staffordshire Borough Council, said: “While it is disappointing to see the lowest areas for the vaccine here in east Staffordshire, the good news is that it is has never been easier to get a vaccine.

“We have had a great response to our local walk-ins over recent weeks and we want to make sure as many people as possible take advantage of these clinics when they visit.”
