Storm causes outage chaos for residents
SEVERE weather caused by Storm Franklin has caused power cuts across Staffordshire and South Derbyshire.
Engineers from Western Power Distribution are working to get the power restored following damage to the network in high winds and heavy rain. In Staffordshire, 469 homes were without power at the time of going to press.
Elsewhere, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, 23 properties in Leek were without power in the SK11 postcode, with the problem set to be resolved by midnight last night.
Thirty-six properties were impacted in the ST9 area, which includes Werrington and Consall, with power estimated to return at 9pm yesterday.
A large section of Cheadle was without power, with 113 properties in the ST11 and ST10 areas impacted. They were expected to have electricity at 5.30pm yesterday.
Fifty-six properties were also without power in the neighbouring ST12 postcode, including Barlaston. The Walton area, near Stone, has been hit by cuts, with around 111 homes in ST15 suffering blackouts. Western Power Distribution says the problem would be fixed at 8.30pm last night.
Eight homes were powerless in the DE6 ST10 postcode, which includes the village of Cauldon Low, with power expected to return by 5.30pm yesterday.
In South Derbyshire, there are fewer postcodes impacted by the power outages. The areas of DE6 and DE65 had 48 properties without power until 6.30pm yesterday. They included homes in Church Broughton, Sapperton and Harehill. Melbourne had 67 homes affected in the DE73 area, with power expected to return at 7.30pmlast night.
