IT is poised to be a crucial few weeks in the fight for Championsh­ip survival as Wayne Rooney looks to guide Derby County to safety.

The Rams gave their hopes of pulling off an unlikely escape from relegation a further boost when Louie Sibley’s late winner beat Peterborou­gh United at Pride Park on Saturday, moving them above their opponents on goal difference.

They now sit 22nd in the Championsh­ip table, five points adrift of Reading in 21st.

The Royals recorded a 3-2 win away to Preston North End at the weekend in Veljko Paunovic’s last match in charge.
