Raven, Buster, Daisy and Chaos are all in need of new homes

RSPCA IS LOOKING FOR SUITABLE PEOPLE TO ADOPT THESE DOGS

- By GEORGE BUNN george.bunn@reachplc.com

MANY people have been out and about with their furry friends this bank holiday weekend. However, there are still sadly some dogs that have not had that chance and are in adoption shelters.

There are lots of pooches desperate for new homes and owners, with a real mix of dogs available, from German Shepherds to Border Collies. They are all different ages, but they have all got the same aim - to win your heart.

Here are some of the dogs looking for new homes. Adoption will depend on vets’ checks for some of these, so make sure you check with the shelters.

Raven: German Shepherd, RSPCA North Staffordshire Branch

A spokesperson from the shelter said: “Raven came into our care through no fault of his own. He is a very active and boisterous boy, who would require more training. He has a fantastic temperament.

“Due to him coming into us very thin, he is very food orientated. He would love a home where he will get lots of exercise and training and will make a loyal friend. Are you able to offer Raven a loving home? He would prefer an adult-only household and to be the only dog in a home.”

Dash: Border Collie, RSPCA Burton & District Branch Animal Centre

Dash is an 11-year-old Border Collie and unfortunately is still at the shelter due to his elderly owner finding Dash too energetic and not being able to meet his needs.

A spokesperson from the shelter said: “Dash loves being out on his walks, he is still very spritely for an 11 year old. We think he has been let off the lead quite a lot, as he does zig zag on the lead, and when we reach open spaces he does stop and look at you, anticipating his lead coming off.

“He can be quite excited and animated by other dogs, and we have found him to be very happy to see some, but not others. He has now started playing with his toys, which was a delight to watch him do this.

“Dash needs a calm and understanding owner, he does prefer women to men, as he has had bad experiences of men in the past. He needs a child free home and where he won’t be left for long periods. You will need to visit Dash a few times to build up a bond before adoption.”

Buster: Crossbreed, RSPCA North Staffordshire Branch

A spokesperson from the shelter said: “Buster is a very lively dog, quite strong, but good natured with a happy disposition, he would require plenty of exercise and would be better suited with an experienced owner. Are you able to offer Buster a loving home?

“He needs training how to sit nicely and would prefer to be the only dog in a home. He would prefer an adult-only household and would prefer not to live with a cat.”

Daisy: English Bull Terrier, RSPCA Burton & District Branch Animal Centre

A spokesperson from the shelter said: “We are desperate to get this old girl out of kennels as she is finding it difficult and it’s breaking our hearts to see a senior dog spending their final part of life in this situation.

“She is the sweetest girl who lights up around people, all she wants is kisses and cuddles! Despite her age, she is full of beans and loves her walks. She is currently awaiting her vet check.”

Chaos: Bull-mastiff crossbreed, RSPCA North Staffordshire Branch

A spokesperson from the shelter said: “Chaos came to us through no fault of his own. He may look like he has a tough exterior but is a big softie at heart, he cannot get enough fuss or cuddles!

“Chaos is unaware of his size and still thinks he is a puppy with so much energy – he needs a patient home with somebody willing to put the time in to teach him some basic commands. Chaos does walk nicely on a lead and is particularly fond of a Dentastick!

“Chaos will make somebody a great companion with his loyal nature and loving temperament. Chaos is not good with small dogs, and definitely no cats.”
