Point saved before play-off clash

- AFC BRIDGNORTH 1 STAPENHILL 1

STAPENHILL face a Midland League Division One play-off semifinal tie tonight, at home against Ashby Ivanhoe (7.45pm).

But they will have to move up a gear to stand a chance of promotion after rescuing a point at AFC Bridgnorth in their latest game thanks to a George Teeney penalty in added time.

Seven minutes into the game, the Swans pressed the self destruct button. Defender James Frost passed the ball back to keeper Paul Hollis, whose clearance struck Frost and fell kindly for striker Craig Knowles, who swept the ball into the corner.

Sam Owen then went on a surging run only to fire wide for Bridgnorth.

The Swans settled down, with Connor Richins chasing down a long ball but he delayed the finish and was crowded out.

Then Teeney held the ball up well before leaving Anwar Olugbon on the floor only to fire wide.

The Swans started the second half well, applying plenty of pressure but they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

At the other end, Swans keeper Hollis did well to keep out a free kick from Kev Buxton.

Slowly, the Swans turned the screw, with the home side coming under constant pressure.

A Teeney header ricocheted out for a corner, while Zaki Evans hit the bar.

In the 94th minute, defender Ashley Garner was brought down in the Bridgeorth box on the 94th minute and Teeney buried the spotkick to claim a 1-1 draw.
