Jubilee-themed reality trail launches in town centre this weekend

-

THIS Saturday Swadlincote will see the launch of a jubilee-themed augmented reality trail, alongside family-friendly entertainment

The trail is part of plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in South Derbyshire.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail is being staged by augmented reality specialists High Street Safari. It launches on Saturday, running through to June 12, and allows families to interact virtually with seven specially developed characters.

Each character represents a different decade in Her Majesty’s 70-year reign and will provide an insight into the Queen’s incredible history on the throne.

At locations around the town centre, people can use their smartphone to scan the displayed QR codes, enabling them to engage with each character and answer questions to choose how the story unfolds whilst learning about a different decade in Her Majesty’s reign. The trail is free to take part in and takes about 45 minutes to complete but can be finished at your own pace and in more than one visit. It works without the need for families to download or sign up to anything – just bring your smartphone and look out for the signs and QR codes outside the participating venues.

The map and full instructions on how to access and make the most of the trail are available at: www. highstreetsafari.com/locations/ jubilee-swadlincote.

The trail starts at Swadlincote Library and concludes at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum. Once all locations are visited participants will be rewarded with a fun selfie opportunity, digital prize badges and a free e-book that concludes the story.

Families visiting between 9am and 2pm on Saturday’s trail launch day will also be able to enjoy extra shopping, alongside family entertainment.

The Town Hall will be open for the monthly indoor Crafts, Gifts and

Goodies Market, and Sharpe’s Pottery Museum is launching the first of their monthly South Derbyshire Artisan Markets. There will also be free face painting available on The Delph.

Cllr Malcolm Gee, chair of South Derbyshire District Council, will launch the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail at Swadlincote Library at 11am and, shortly afterwards, will preside over the official opening of antiquity retailer Noble Robin Salvage’s new High Street premises.
