Youngsters learn about safety on visit to brick factory

-

PUPILS paid a visit to a factory to learn about safety.

The children, aged seven and eight, from Measham Cofe Primary were invited along by building products manufacturer Forterra to its brickworks and Red Bank factory in the village.

The children learned about how to use the correct personal protective equipment, safety within the manufacturing environment as well as discovering how bricks and other clay products are made and used.

The next stage in the Safety Squad programme involves them writing about the history of bricks and the processes involved in making them, conducting their own safety evaluation at home or in their classroom and creating a Stop sign for the factory.

Kishan Sisodia, Measham brickworks plant manager, said: “It was our pleasure to host the pupils and teachers of Measham Primary School as the inaugural members of the Safety Squad.

“It was great fun and a huge success. We thoroughly enjoyed showing them what we do at the plant and how we stay safe at work.”

Teacher Laura Beighton said: “Thank you so much to all the Forterra team for organising the Safety Squad, the children loved it.”
