Showhome picture causes confusion among readers

-

PEOPLE have been left confused by a picture of a showhome that has opened in Derbyshire on the site of the fondly-remembered American Adventure theme park.

The image in question is a photograph of the garage at the Shipley Lakeside development.

From the picture, released by developers Harron Homes, it appears that the lawn runs right up to the garage. And what looks like a rockery in the front garden could make getting a car into the garage quite a difficult manoeuvre.

Sharp-eyed readers have expressed their confusion as to how this would work.

On our Derbyshirelive website, Ellie Phillips commented: “Why is there grass in front of the garage?”

Laurrie Richardson wrote: “What a daft design that garage is.”

Iain Leyland and Richard Earp wondered if the layout was that way so vehicles other than the family car were meant to be stored there.

Iain said: “That double garage looks a bit extravagant for storing a lawn mower.”

Richard commented: “What’s in the garage? A tractor?”

Steve Cooper wrote: “How the heck are you supposed to park your car in that garage” and Laurrie Richardson replied: “Bit of off-roading”.

It seems that readers like the idea of the Shipley Lakeside development having street names inspired by the

American Adventure. Derbyshire Live suggested Missile Road, Buffalo Stampede Street, Lazy Lil’s Lane and Log Flume Close. However, it appears that developers have not chosen to offer this nod to the history of the site.

Nic Ola said: “I want to live on Buffalo Stampede street.”

Nikita Rusko wrote: “Your address might be ‘Log Flume Lane’.”

Some new names were proposed, with some proving controversial. Jonathan Woodhead said: “Maybe a Boot Hill Cemetery? Or an Apollo Drive?” But Dave Bowler wrote: “As long there’s not a Boot Hill cemetery Lane.”

A spokesperson for Harron Homes North Midlands said: “We’d like to reassure readers that all homes at Shipley Lakeside have paved driveways, and the showhome will be re-landscaped to match as soon as it is no longer in use as part of the sales complex.”
