Glow getters
IT’S time to glow up! Maya Jama hosts this fourth series with ten new make-up artists desperate to win the crown – and all the industry glory and contracts that come with it.
Over eight weeks they will compete in various high-stakes professional assignments from TV to theatre, fashion to front covers and online beauty campaigns.
At the studio, their talents are pushed to the limit with creative make-up transformations and each week the two who least impress series judges, Val Garland and Dominic Skinner, go head-to-head in a Face Off elimination.
Val says: “Average work simply won’t cut it for me. I want to be bowled over, to see something I’ve never seen before.”
Dominic says: “I am the prince of precision and a stickler for symmetry. The bar is high and so are my expectations.”
The first challenge is to create a social media campaign for global fitness brand Gymshark.
The company polled its followers and discovered that a quarter of them wear make-up to the gym.
So they want the artists to come up with a natural make-up look that’s durable for a workout, keeps health at its core and grabs attention for a ‘fitspiration’ feature. The results are ‘too glamorous’, ‘too heavy’ and ‘off brand’ – has anyone hit the mark? Then they have to create a bold, dramatic look that tells the judges their hidden strength. The final looks – including a part-concrete statue, a femalemale face-off, a spacey explosion and an alien-looking creature – are astonishing.
