Tenant is found to run town pub that has a reputation for live music
A BURTON pub has been saved from permanent closure after the owners found a new tenant.
The Grange Inn shut in September last year after its longstanding managers decided to move on to find a larger premises.
It has remained empty while specialist pub agent Sidney Philips marketed the property at £425,000 to buy. Alternatively, a free-of-tie lease agreement was also available.
As a result, the agent has agreed a deal with an as yet unnamed tenant to lease the two-storey pub for £19,500 a year, which is less than the original lease asking price of £35,000. It comes as Burton, along with the rest of the UK, has seen many once-popular pubs decline and end up being bulldozed to make way for housing.
Zaine Lamont, of Sidney Phillips, said: “I am delighted to have found a new operator for the Grange Inn in Burton. Traditional public houses like this are the lifeblood of residential communities and I am pleased a tenant with fresh ideas and enthusiasm is now in place to offer locals the chance of a new drinking establishment.”
The Grange Inn has been a popular live music venue and was originally a Bass house when it was built in the 19th century. It traded as a wet-led pub, boasting darts and pool teams, alongside hosting regular events such as bingo, quizzes, live music and other celebratory functions.
