Cashin set for all-clear to play for Irish

-

DERBY County defender Eiran Cashin looks set to feature for Republic of Ireland Under-21s next month.

The 20-year-old was handed his first Ireland U21 call-up in March but the absence of the required paperwork denied him the opportunity to make his debut.

Ireland face a triple-header against Bosnia, Montenegro and Italy in June and boss Jim Crawford is confident Cashin will be available.

“It (the paperwork) is still in the process but I was told it will be sorted,” he told Pundit Arena.

“It is very close now and I think there is one document that needs to be chased up and Eiran should be OK.

“I’m very confident that he’ll be involved in our preparations for the three games.”

Cashin has impressed since breaking into Derby’s first team this season.

He has made 18 League appearances this season, 14 of them starts, and his one goal came in the victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road in the final away fixture of the Championship campaign. ■■Leeds United have beaten Derby County’s record of the most cards in a Premier League season after their defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Jesse Marsch’s side were shown one yellow and one red card in the 3-0 defeat at Elland Road as they slipped closer to relegation to the Championship.

Daniel James was sent off only 24 minutes into the game after a high tackle on Mateo Kovacic.

James’ red along with a first half yellow card for midfielder Kalvin Phillips means that the Whites have now recorded 100 cards this season, beating the Rams’ previous record of 97.

The Rams set that number in the 1999-2000 season when they ended the campaign in 16th place in the top flight. Sunderland (2014-15) and Everton (1998-99) are jointthird with 96 cards.
