TV PICKS OF THE WEEK
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2022 Tonight, BBC1, 8pm
Italy hosts tonight’s Eurovision final after rock band Maneskin won last year’s contest, but which nation will triumph this evening?
Understandably, the bookies are predicting a victory for Ukraine (providing they made it through the semi-finals), but the UK – represented by Tiktok sensation and singersongwriter Sam Ryder – have received better odds than you might expect given our less-thanimpressive record over the past few years.
Graham Norton is our man in Turin, providing the commentary.
THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATION Tomorrow, ITV, 8pm
The Queen is now the only British monarch to have reigned for 70 years – and if that doesn’t deserve a star-studded celebration, what does?
Coming from the private grounds of Windsor Castle, this event includes 1,300 performers and 500 horses and is made up of four acts, each overseen by a different event host – Tom Cruise, Damian Lewis, Adjoa Andoh and Alan Titchmarsh respectively.
If that wasn’t starry (or eclectic enough), it will also feature Helen Mirren as Elizabeth I, music from a 75-piece orchestra with special performances from Keala Settle, Gregory Porter and Katherine Jenkins, and more celebrity guests including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ant and Dec, Joan Collins and David Jason.
Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham present the coverage.
JOE WICKS: FACING MY CHILDHOOD Monday, BBC1, 9pm
With his bestselling recipe books and online workouts, Joe Wicks was well on his way to becoming the nation’s No 1 health and fitness guru before lockdown and his online PE with Joe sessions for schoolchildren.
Joe presents a warm and affable side to the world, but it belies a troubled childhood as the offspring of parents with mental health issues – his mother suffered from acute obsessive compulsive disorder, while his father was a heroin addict.
In this moving documentary, he opens up about his experiences, meets those who are struggling and reveals why he believes exercise is important to our all-round wellbeing.
FREEZE THE FEAR WITH WIM HOF Tuesday, BBC1, 9pm
It’s the final episode of the series, and guess what? Yes, Iceman Hof has saved the most chilling (literally), scary and downright bonkers challenges until now.
The celebrities have a second go at swimming under ice before the ultimate terror begins – jumping off a 500ft high bridge. Lee Mack and Holly Willoughby host.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Wednesday, Channel 4, 8pm
Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer are back with a new series offering advice for home buyers.
In the North-east of England, two sets of house-hunters have decided to move back up north from down south. Phil’s in Northumberland with Lauren and Noel, who are moving from Northampton, while Kirstie is with solo buyer Charlotte, who has moved back from London and wants a home of her own.
CHIVALRY
Thursday, Channel 4, 10pm
Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani’s timely comedy drama has been a thought-provoking joy. It draws to a close tonight as Coogan’s old-school Hollywood film producer Cameron and Solemani’s Indie darling film director Bobby are forced to confront their values and their feelings for each other.
Can she finally convince him that women should be treated with respect and will the film they’ve been working on further her career?
THE OTHER ONE Friday, BBC1, 9.30pm
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching in an unseasonable episode of the sitcom, and Cathy is certainly hoping that love is in the air when she claps eyes on teacher Eamon (David Menkin).
Unfortunately, the fact she met him while accompanying Cat to her maths GCSE evening class leads to tension between the siblings.
