A little bit of the Caribbean in East Staffordshire
AN East Staffordshire sports club is holding a Caribbean-inspired event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
A Lil Bit of Bim (Barbados Day) will take place at Draycott and Hanbury Cricket Club in Knightsfield Road, Hanbury, on Sunday, June 5. The club has had a long association with players coming from Barbados.
A Lil Bit of Bim was launched in 2011 so that people of all ages could socialise and experience the traditions of Barbados.
Organisers say it also provides a fun way of uniting Barbadians with their heritage and culture by encouraging links to the island that will endure through the generations. Its first location in the West Midlands was Solihull, then last year it came to Coventry. Now, on Platinum Jubilee weekend, A Lil Bit of Bim is coming to the beautiful East Staffordshire village of Hanbury.
Activities on the day will include line dancing, food stalls, children’s entertainment, a carnival band and steel band music, as well as a 20/20 cricket match between Draycott Hanbury CC and a Barbadian team. Attendees will be able to buy Barbadian products and sponsors and stallholders are welcome to participate.
