Three years in power is already too long
Thursday, May 5 was an interesting local election day.
The Conservative Party lost council seats in England, Wales and Scotland and I’m sure if they stood candidates in northern Ireland they’d have done badly there, too.
not surprising, perhaps, as revelations about parties in downing Street during lockdown clearly showed the Tory leader to be more shameless and cavalier with the truth than any other prime minister in recent history.
not everyone had the chance to vote and some will have to wait for the chance to have their say until the city council and borough/district council elections of May next year.
Will Boris Johnson last until then so the rest of us can give him an electoral kicking? We might relish that opportunity, but it would be best for the country if he goes as soon as possible. He was never cut out for high office, as various people who know him well warned.
Max Hastings, his former boss at the Telegraph, described him as unfit for national office, saying in 2019 “the Johnson premiership could survive for three or four years, shambling from one embarrassment and debacle to another, of which Brexit may prove the least”.
Three years is already too long to have to put up with him.
