Brits lead the way back to holidays abroad
Demand from Britons for overseas summer holidays is back to pre-pandemic levels.
Travel giant Tui says bookings from the UK are 11% above the level they were at for summer 2019.
It added that Britain is “leading the way” for sales amid a bounceback in countries where it operates, despite airport chaos, the cost of living crisis and a risk of new Covid travel restrictions.
Bookings overall are at 85% of 2019 levels and are tipped to be near pre-covid levels by summer. Tui carried 1.9 million customers in the past three months, a tenfold rise year-on-year with many booking at short notice.
Tui expects to return to profit this year. A survey for website Skyscanner also found a strong appetite for sunshine breaks.
