Super six make it to West Mid champs

-

BURTON & District Swimming Club had six swimmers involved in the West Midlands Championships at Coventry.

It has been a difficult year for attempting to qualify, the pandemic meaning swimmers only had the county championships in February and one open meeting in Stoke to get the required times, which are hard to reach in normal circumstances.

The only one of Burton’s sextet to reach a final was Bella Richards, who did so in the 50m backstroke. She also swam the 100m backstroke.

The club’s youngest swimmer to qualify, Edward Frost, swam the 50m and 100m in both backstroke and breaststroke.

Oliver Frost qualified in four events, the 50m freestyle and 50m, 100m and 200m in backstroke.

Matt Gates qualified in three, the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.

Rosie Bolton was in the 50m backstroke and Georgia Ulyett and the 50m butterfly.

The event also counted as a platform for qualifying for the 2023 Staffordshire Championships and Burton already have 10 swimmers qualifying in 30 events for those as they look forward to a more normal swimming calendar this summer.
