Plenty make debut as Burton win YDL
BURTON Athletics Club won the first lower age group Youth Development League match of the season when they hosted it at Shobnall.
They finished ahead of Amber Valley & Erewash AC, Derby AC and teams from Rushcliffe, Mansfield and Sutton in Ashfield.
For many of the under-13 and under-15 athletes, it was their first match representing the club.
First to run in the hurdles and securing personal bests were Jess Golder (u13) and Alice Peck (u15).
Isla Swindlehurst won the under15 200m in a PB and Lily Hill made it a Burton double in the B race.
Charlie Nettleton crossed the line in 2.51.8 for a PB in the under-13 800m, then ran 13.2 seconds in her first attempt at the 75m sprint.
Swindlehurst added another PB in the under-15 100m in 12.7 and Hill again won the B race. In the under15 300m, Rosie Tyler and Ffion Raw both ran PBS at 45.1 and 46.2 respectively.
Millie Nettleton took 15 seconds off her PB in the under-13 1500m, while Connie Lees made her debut in the under-15 race.
Golder was back in action to win the under-13 high jump and take second in the long jump with PBS in both.
Holly Wilson won the under-15 javelin by a distance, throwing 21.75m.
Tyler, Swindlehurst, Hill and Grace Long combined to win the under 15 4x100m.
In the boys’ events, Nathan Mugoti kicked off with second in the under15 100m, in which Daniel Brackstone won the B race. The pair then
both won at 200m.
Kamil Kolodziej followed a run in the under-15 300m with second place in the 800m in 2.24.30.
Mugoti returned to action to win his long jump pool with a Grade 1 jump of 5.76m and Reece Robinson won his pool with 4.40m.
George Kugelmann added a win in the discus with 29.59m, as did Robinson in the javelin with 29.55m.
The under-15 boys wrapped up a successful day with wins in both relays.
In the under-13s, with many competing in the league for the first time, Daniel Kolodziej followed up a run in the 150m with victory over 800m, in which Daniel Perkins added a B race win.
At 1200m, Morgan Fletcher and Alexander Tutt both won their races.
Daniel Kolodziej and Tutt both added wins in their long jump pools and Tutt was also second in the high jump, as was Harry Mckeown in his high jump pool.
BURTON again sent a number of young athletes to the seconds Derby
Athletics Development Association competition in Derby.
DADA is a voluntary organisation formed to give extra opportunities to young athletes looking to improve their performances.
Daniel Kolodziej was second in the 75m with 10.91 seconds, just short of his best.
Kamil Kolodziej won the 1500m in 4.58 and was fourth in the 200m with a PB of 27.43 seconds.
Connie Lees made her 1500m debut and ran well for eighth in 5.51.73.
In the 600m there was a good battle for third and fourth between club-mates Daniel Kolodziej and Alexander Tutt, which Kolodziej won in a PB of 1.50.84. Daniel Perkins ran well to win his 600m heat in 2.00.37.
Under-15 Isla Swindlehurst set PBS in 100m (12.95) and 200m (26.81), while Grace Long knocked 0.4 seconds off her PB to win the 100m in 14.14 seconds
Also recording a PB at that distance was under-15 Reese Robinson, who was second in his race in 13.77 seconds, later adding a PB in winning his 200m heat in 28.42.
Burton throwers were also in action, the performances of the evening coming from Rachel Burke in the hammer, her throw of 37.43m a PB by four metres to take her third on the under-20 Burton AC all-time list and fourth overall.
Maddie Hughes landed another big PB in the discus, throwing 33.30m, and she is now second on the club’s all-time under-20 list behind Zara Acton and third overall behind Di Harrison and Acton.
George Kugelmann set a discus PB of 27.50.
