One last thing...

- LIGHT BITE: Cream cheese

Remember when we were little and Curly Wurlys were enormous? There was so much chewy, chocolate-covered toffee – at least the length of your forearm – you had to save some for later.

Then we all grew up and it turned out Curly Wurlys weren’t the size of a metre ruler at all.

Well, I had the same sense of disappointment last week when I opened a tub of cream cheese. Was it me or did it seem – reduced? And I don’t just mean the fat content.

Turns out the producer had scaled down the amount but – surprise, surprise – is still charging £3 a pot for it.

The same apparently goes for hundreds of other products which in the last few weeks have got smaller or lighter.

It’s a price rise by stealth. I understand manufacturers are feeling the pinch like all of us. But this just leaves a sour taste – even if it does mean I might lose a bit of weight.
