Pair held as alleged rape investigat­ed

TWO men have been arrested after an allegation of rape was made in an East Staffordsh­ire town.

Officers from Staffordsh­ire Police were called to Carter Street, Uttoxeter, at 4.40pm on Sunday, May 8, following a report of rape at one of the street’s addresses.

The men, a 37-year-old from Uttoxeter and a 45-year-old from Rugeley, were arrested on suspicion of rape. They have now been released on conditiona­l bail while the investigat­ion continues, a police spokesman police said.

Specially trained officers are supporting a woman.

A spokesman for Staffordsh­ire Police said: “Officers were called at 4.40pm on Sunday, May 8, following a report of rape at an address on Carter Street in Uttoxeter. A woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

“A 37-year-old man from Uttoxeter and 45-year-old man from Rugeley who were arrested on suspicion of rape have since been released on conditiona­l bail. The investigat­ion is ongoing.”
