Pair held as alleged rape investigated

TWO men have been arrested after an allegation of rape was made in an East Staffordshire town.

Officers from Staffordshire Police were called to Carter Street, Uttoxeter, at 4.40pm on Sunday, May 8, following a report of rape at one of the street’s addresses.

The men, a 37-year-old from Uttoxeter and a 45-year-old from Rugeley, were arrested on suspicion of rape. They have now been released on conditional bail while the investigation continues, a police spokesman police said.

Specially trained officers are supporting a woman.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Officers were called at 4.40pm on Sunday, May 8, following a report of rape at an address on Carter Street in Uttoxeter. A woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

“A 37-year-old man from Uttoxeter and 45-year-old man from Rugeley who were arrested on suspicion of rape have since been released on conditional bail. The investigation is ongoing.”
