HOTEL OF THE WEEK

- By LOIS YORK

MOXY MANCHESTER CITY Manchester

WHERE AND WHY: Eat, sleep, party, repeat is the mantra of Moxy Manchester City on Atkinson Street in the heart of Spinningfields.

A former hat factory, the ninestorey building has been restyled for social staycations.

Guests check in at the bar, where they are given their room key along with a “Got Moxy” cocktail on the house. We sat sipping the gin and syrup blend on sofas surrounded by neon lighting and football tables, while a DJ spun the decks.

Up in our pet-friendly room, the mood shifted to peaceful with a simple grey colour palette, sleek wood panels, a workstation and black-and-white tiled shower room. Techie touches include Netflix, motionactivated LED guidelights, charging points galore and super-fast wi-fi throughout.

ON THE MENU: In the funky hotel bar there’s a huge cocktail menu. Be there for happy hour and try the star of the show, the Disco Diva, a sharing cocktail made with vodka, citrus and prosecco served in a disco ball.

Breakfast is self-service with everything from a full English to cereals and fresh fruit.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE:

Spinningfields is bursting with bars and restaurants including Art Deco English brasserie The Ivy, and 20 Stories. It’s a short walk to the Opera House, Science and Industry Museum and The People’s History Museum. For shopping, the Arndale Centre is a 10-minute walk away along Deansgate.

WAKE UP CALL: Rooms from £119 a night for a king size at weekends or £76 on weeknights. Parking available at NCP Spinningfields, a five-minute walk away on Quay Street. moxymanchestercity.com
