Road closed after gas main fire
A BUSY stretch of road between Uttoxeter and Marchington was shut after a gas main was damaged and had reportedly caught fire yesterday.
Traffic information service Inrix reported the B5017 Highwood Road was closed in both directions between the Wood Lane turn-off and Demontfort Way, in Uttoxeter.
A spokesperson from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service said yesterday: “At 10.45am this morning, May 18 we received a report of damage to a gas main on Highwood Road in Uttoxeter. Crews attended and extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus. A stretch of the road remains closed and a diversion is in place. The gas supply has been isolated and the incident has been left with specialist engineers.”
The road was reopened by 3.30pm.
