1935: TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) died six days after a motorcycle accident in Dorset.

1982: Actress Sophia Loren was jailed for tax evasion.

1984: Former Poet Laureaute Sir John Betjeman doed aged 77. He was buried in the churchyard at St Enodoc’s Church in Trebetheri­ck, Cornwall.
