A HOUSING association has won two awards for its health and safety, including the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident’s highest accolade

Trent & Dove Housing, based in Horninglow Street, Burton, was awarded ROSPA’S Sir George Earle Trophy in recognition of its outstanding health and safety practice.

Lauded as the pinnacle of ROSPA’S awards, the Sir George Earle Trophy was first presented in the 1950s and is an annual prize which recognises the very best entry in the ROSPA Health and Safety Awards.

Trent & Dove came above more than 2,000 entrants to scope the title, having submitted a full body of evidence across the business and been interviewed by the panel of judges. Previous winners include L’oreal.

The win followed Trent & Dove’s success in claiming the ROSPA Public Service & Local Government Industry Sector Award.

This recognises organisations who can evidence their ongoing focus on ensuring colleagues come home safely to their families at the end of every working day.

Anna Hickman, head of Health & Safety at Trent & Dove, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded the Sir George Earle Trophy in 2022, which is a remarkable accolade for a small social housing provider.

“This has been achieved through years of hard work and dedication of the health and safety team, leaders and colleagues at Trent & Dove who continually strive to improve and innovate.

“We are super excited to be working in partnership with ROSPA over the next 12 months to deliver projects within the social housing sector to reduce accidents in the home and improve health and wellbeing.

“We also hope to inspire other SMES to strive for the highest standards of occupational health and safety management.”

The judging panel noted Trent & Dove’s approach to continually developing health and safety systems that went above and beyond in their pursuit of protecting staff, while positively impacting Trent & Dove’s residents and their families, which the firm says is very much in line with its mission.

Errol Taylor, ROSPA’S chief executive, said: “The panel were hugely impressed by the pioneering strides Trent & Dove have made over the past 12 months.

“Their progressive approach to health and safety parallels their ambitious and meaningful ethos, evidenced by the essential and compassionate support they supply to customers.”

The presentation of the trophy was made at the Excel Centre in London.

The scheme is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK, and is now into its 66th year.

It recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Trent & Dove Housing is a non-profit organisation offering affordable homes across East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, and Northwest Leicestershire.
