A COMMUNITY near Burton is holding a picnic to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen (right).

Hoar Cross villagers have worked with The Deer Park, in Maker Lane, to organise the Hoar Cross Community Picnic on Friday, June 3.

It will be preceded on Thursday, June 2, by the lighting of a jubilee beacon in the park, at which there will be performances by Kelly B and the Deer Park Choir. There will also be a cider bar and hog roast, with tickets costing £2.50 per car.

The following day the community picnic will take place alongside an Artisan Jubilee Market and Party, with other events including a dog show and tug of war.

A spokeswoman for the parish council, referring to the picnic, said: “All village residents and their families are welcome and there will be a reserved area for you. Bring your own picnic or order from the Deer Park.”

The artisan market will continue on the Saturday. For more information, visit The Deer Park’s website.
