It’s going to be a crazy year for teen rising star Sekou Sylla, 17
TEENAGE SINGER’S CAREER REALLY TAKING OFF
THE next few months promise to be “crazy” for an up-andcoming musician who has bagged a spot at Glastonbury.
Sekou Sylla, from Ashby, is going from strength to strength since posting videos of his soulful singing to Youtube and Soundcloud.
The 17-year-old signed a record deal last year. His debut EP is set to be released this autumn, but there will be a series of high-profile performances before that.
He was chosen by Brit Award winner Arlo Parks to perform at the BBC Introducing stage at
Glastonbury over the weekend of June 24 to 26.
His song, Better Man, is yet to be officially released but has had radio airplay on the Introducing service.
Last month, the singer was picked by the Beckhams to perform at Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz.
He will be supporting John Legend on his UK tour this July.
“It’s so exciting, I can’t wait,” he said. “It’s all amazing. I’m loving it, it’s gonna get a lot crazy.
Sekou was 16 and studying at Ashby School when he was signed to Good Soldier Records after he posted a series of his performances on Soundcloud.
“I’ll be doing hundreds of London shows. And home town shows, too,” he said.
“I’m excited. There’s going to be dance, upbeat. People are gonna see me dance at shows. I’m grateful and can’t wait.”
The teenager is currently in LA getting ready for his debut EP release in September.
While already signed with Good Soldier Records, he is set to sign with a major UK record label and another in the US.
He said he and his family are in shock, but proud.
“They are so excited and let me do my thing and hopefully all our lives can change.
“I’ve got loads coming up, so it’s humbling. I’m so excited.”
